New York, NY – Coming off a successful weekend at the Cortland Invitational, the Hunter Hawks played host to the second CUNY Athletic Conference Multi-Match on Monday and in the first match it was the Beavers of The City College of New York upsetting the Hawks 3-1 (30-28, 25-21, 16-25, 25-18) to claim the top spot in the CUNYAC.
The Beavers were led by the 2007 CUNYAC Player of the Year,
Floriana Garo (New York, NY/Red River) who finished with a match high 17 kills and 17 digs. Freshman middle blocker
Jamie Edindjiklian (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) added ten kills and seven digs, while freshman setter
Alexis Kinsman (Mystic, CT/Fitch) tallied 37 assists.
For the Hawks, senior opposite
Amanda Kamm (Dix Hills, NY/Hills West) was the team leader in kills, finishing with 16, hitting .417 and 16 assists. Senior outside hitter
Olga Petrenko (Bronx, NY/Environmental Studies) contributed on both ends with nine kills and tied a team high of 13 digs.
The loss puts Hunter at 15-4 on the year and are now 5-1 in the CUNYAC, while CCNY improves to 11-8 and remain unbeaten in the conference at 6-0.
After today's CUNYAC Multi-Match, the Hawks return home on Wednesday when they host Stevens Institute of Technology for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference match.
