Hawks Advance To Semi’s
To Face #3 Baruch at 6:00 p.m.

New York, NY – Senior opposite Amanda Kamm (Dix Hills, NY/Hills West) finished with a match high nine kills and seventeen assists to lead the Hawks to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-13) win over the seventh-seeded York College in the opening round of the 2008 CUNY Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament Tuesday evening at the Hunter Sportsplex.

Sophomore outside hitter Stephanie Broome (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) had a big game, finishing with eight kills, hitting .500, while the middle blocking duo of Tracey Igwe (Bronx, NY/DeWeitt Clinton) and Mallory Grubler (Bayside, NY/Cardozo) each added five kills. Sophomore libero Rachel SantaOlalla tallied a match high 12 digs on defense for the Hawks.

The Cardinals got contributions from senior outside hitter Christina Lopez (Queens, NY/John Adams) who finished with a team high ten digs, and junior setter Charlina Gallegos (Mexico City, Mexico/Hillcrest) had ten assists and four digs.

The Cardinals finish their season with a 8-22 overall record, while the Hawks improve to 25-5 overall and will not face the third-seeded Baruch Bearcats in the Semifinals on Friday at 6:00 p.m. in the B43 Gymnasium of the Hunter Sportsplex. The winner of that match will then advance to the finals which are scheduled to be played in the B3 gymnasium at 8:00 p.m.
