Hawks Come Up Short at Home

New York, NY – In their final showdown of the regular season with the top team in the CUNY Athletic Conference, the Hawks behind the play of senior guard Nicholas Flagg (Queens, NY/Cardozo) and senior forward Frantz Millien (Rockland, NY/North Rockland) battled the Bearcats of Baruch college for a solid 40 minutes, but in the end, it would be the Bearcats who remain unbeaten in the conference, taking a 61-50 victory Friday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.

During a low scoring first half, the two teams traded leads before the Bearcats captured a 26-24 lead with 2:50 left in the first half. This would be the lead that eventual turned into a victory as the Bearcats would not trail the rest of the game.

Flagg & Millien each finished the game with ten points for the Hawks who had all nine players that stepped on the floor, score at least a basket. Despite a poor offensive performance, senior guard Emiljano Kinaj (Bronx, NY/John F. Kennedy) led the team with six rebounds and four assists.

Baruch got a huge contribution from senior center Stephen Bader (North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen) who scored 14 points and pulled down a game high 21 points. Sophomore guard Lionel Hilaire (Far Rockaway, NY/Archbishop Molloy) led all scorers with 15 points, going a perfect 9-of-9 from the free-throw line.

The Hawks will now travel to Patchogue, NY on Monday, February 2 for a non-conference game with Saint Joseph's College starting at 7:00 p.m.
