Hawks Down MCLA & Saint Joseph’s At Oneonta Invite

Oneonta, NY – Junior opposite Tracey Igwe (Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton) was named to the all-tournament team after recording 20 kills in a five set, come from behind victory over Saint Joseph's College and earlier in the day, had 17 kills in a 3-0 sweep of MCLA as the Hawks go 2-2 at the Oneonta State Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Looking for redemption from Friday's losses, Hunter was able to get past the Massachusetts College for Liberal Arts 3-0 (25-21, 27-25, 25-15), behind the play of Igwe and sophomore outside hitter Christine Luebcke (Jackson Heights, NY/Cardozo) who had 14 kills, while sophomore setter Katina Boutis (Pilot Mountain, NC/Salem Academy) tallied 33 assists.

Against Saint Joseph's, after losing the first two sets 25-23 and 29-27, Hunter battled back with took the next three sets 25-22, 25-20, 15-10 to claim their final victory of the two-day invitational. Sophomore middle blocker Mallory Grubler (Bayside, NY/Cardozo) had 18 kills and Boutis dished out 42 assists.

Following today's matches, the Hawks now stand at 13-8 on the season. They will be back in action on Wednesday, when they host the regionally ranked New Paltz for a 7:00 p.m. match.
