New York, NY – Freshman guard
Eric Klingsberg (Queens, NY/Holy Cross) netted a career a season high 27 points off the bench, shooting 9-of-9 from the free throw line to snap a Hunter two game skid with a 94-87 victory over John Jay College in a CUNY Athletic Conference men's basketball game Tuesday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.
The Bloodhounds sank the first basket of the game, a jumper from senior forward Mason Vaughn, but this would be his team's only lead of the night. After one half, the Hawks owned a 46-32 lead and eventually ran the spread up to 20 points, before a second half run by the Bloodhounds cut it down to just four points with 10:20 left on the clock. The Hawks were able to maintain control of the game at the free-throw line however, shooting 19-of-24 in the half and 23-of-29 for the game.
Junior guard
Rocco Rubino (Brooklyn, NY/Archbishop Molloy) was the Hawks second highest scorer with 19 points, followed by 16 points from sophomore forward
Anthony Uter (Jamaica, NY/August Martin) and 12 points by sophomore guard
Mark Courtien (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial).
For the Bloodhounds, Vaugn led all scorers with 28 points and also had nine rebounds, while junior guard Chris Jaegar finished with 19 points and nine rebounds. Junior Guard David Williams added 15 points, and senior forward Daniel Desir had ten points and a game high 12 rebounds.
The Hawks pick up their second win of the season, moving to 2-3 on the year, while John Jay remains winless on the year at 0-4. The Hawks will be back in action on Friday, when they host The City College of New York for an 8:30 p.m. game, the final event of the 2009 Hunter Homecoming celebration.
