Eric Klingsberg (Queens, NY/Holy Cross) had yet another impressive game, scoring a career best 39 points, shooting 16-of-17 from the free-throw line to help lead the Hawks to an 85-71 victory over FDU-Florham Monday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.
Farleigh Dickenson, who entered tonight's game with a 0-6 record, opened the game with a 9-2 run. Hunter then countered this with 7-0 run to tie the game at nine with 13:25 left on the clock. At this pace, it looked as if a low scoring affair was on the horizon. Following six lead changes and seven ties, the Hawks would hold a one point advantage heading into the locker room.
Klingsberg led all scorers with 19 points, while sophomore guard Adam Katz had 12 points for the Devils.
Katz then opened the second half with a three-pointer to give his team a 35-33 lead. The Devils would hold this lead for a majority of the second half, pushing the margin to as much as eight points. Trailing 56-48 with 11:19 on the block, junior guard
Rocco Rubino (Brooklyn, NY/Archbishop Molloy) would sink two free throws at the start of and two and the end of a 10-2 run to tie the game for an 11th time with 8:13 left in regulation.
Following a made jumper by FDU center Ricky Fetske to tie the game at 60, the Hawks would outscore the Devils 25-11 to close out the game and pick up the team's third consecutive victory.
Rubino would finish the game with a quiet 14 points, shooting 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. For FDU, Katz led the team with 26 points, followed by Fetske with 22 points and a game high 11 rebounds.
The Hawks shot a season high 86.8 percent from the free-throw line, making 33-of-38 attempts.
Hunter returns to action on Wednesday, when they host Vassar College for a non-conference 6:00 p.m. game at the Sportsplex, while the Devils are off until January 2 when they face Regis College in the first game of the Catholic Holiday Tournament.
