Hawks Lose Heartbreaker At Home

New York, NY – After trailing by as much as 18 points in the second half, the Hawks would fight back and cut the lead to just one point with 18 seconds left, but just weren't able to get over the hump and gave up a heartbreaking loss to the New York City College of Technology, 69-66 at the Hunter Sportsplex Wednesday night.

Trailing by three points with 24 second on the clock, senior guard Emiljano Kinaj (Bronx, NY/John F. Kennedy) rushed up the court and nailed a shot from deep, but as the fans went crazy, they soon realized his foot was on the line and it was only a two-point bucket which quickly prompted a foul to put the Yellow Jackets on the line. Senior guard Jamal Hall (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) sank both free throws to give his team a three point lead. The Hawks had one final chance at tying the game on a three-point attempt from senior guard Nicholas Flagg (Queens, NY/Cardozo) that went half way down the hoop before rattling back out and ending the game.

Freshman guard Mark Courtien (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial) finished the game with a team high 15 points, while Flagg scored 11 and Kinaj had ten. Senior forward Frantz Millien (Rockland, NY/North Rockland) also finished with ten points and pulled down a team high ten rebounds before an injury on a hard foul forced him to exit the game.

The Yellow Jackets got a huge contribution from senior forward Ryan Phillip (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth Regional) who led the game with 20 points and 19 rebounds. Hall would go on to finish with 23 points, shooting 9-of-10 from the charity stripe and sophomore guard Roman Perez (Brooklyn, NY/Murray Bergtraum) made a couple of key baskets to finish with 15 points.

The Hawks will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to the Bronx for their second meeting of the season with Lehman College. That game is scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m.
