Hoboken, NJ – The Hunter women's volleyball team opened up the 2009 season on Wednesday night with two non-conference matches on the road, first suffering a four set loss to Farleigh Dickenson-Florham (25-22, 20-25, 25-13, 25-20) and then succumbing to Stevens Institute of Technology in three sets (25-18, 25-15, 25-18) at the home of the Ducks in Hoboken, NJ.

Junior middle blocker
Tracey Igwe (Bronx, NY/DeWeitt Clinton) finished the match with a team high 12 kills and also addd two solo blocks, while sophomore middle blocker
Mallory Grubler (Bayside, NY/Cardozo) hit .455 with 11 kills and three total blocks. Sophomore setter
Katina Boutis (Pilot Mountain, NC/Salem Academy) tallied 31 assists and seven digs in the season opener.

Against the Ducks,
Grubler finished with a team high eight kills, hitting .375, while sophomore outside hitter
Christine Luebcke (Jackson Heights, NY/Cardozo) added seven kills and four digs for the Hawks.
Boutis totaled 15 assists with four digs in three sets.
The Hawks will be back in action on Saturday, taking part the New York University Invitational, starting off with matches against Sage, SUNY-Geneseo and Rutgers-Newark. Then on Sunday, they are scheduled to play Polytechnic and NYU. All matches will be played at the Coles Sports Center located at 181 Mercer Street, New York, NY.
