Box Score
On Tuesday, October 19, the women's volleyball team traveled to Staten Island, New York to take on the College of Staten Island in a conference contest. After taking the first set by way of a 25-5 score, the Hawks rolled through the next two and sealed the match victory. With the win, Hunter advances to 11-11, 8-0 CUNYAC while the Dolphins sink to 2-15, 1-7 CUNYAC.
Sparked by a Kim Hirten kill to begin the match, the Hawks put the Dolphins in an early 8-0 hole. With momentum on their side, Hunter continued to press offensively, jumping out to a 16-4 lead at which point CSI would call a timeout in an attempt to rethink their game plan and stop the bleeding. The deficit proved to be too much to recover from as outside hitter, Rodesha Donaldson put the first set away with two straight service aces.
As the second set got underway, CSI was even with Hunter through the first six points. However, six unanswered points by Hunter set them back 12-6 and created just enough room to separate the two for the rest of the set as the Dolphins would reach 20 before the set concluded. In the third and final set, it was the same story as Hunter jumped out to an early 10-4 lead. CSI had no answer for the Hawk attack as they would get no further and allow 15 straight points to end the match.
Junior Mallory Grubler had a game high 14 kills while Karolina Krauze tallied 10 digs and setter Katina Boutis recorded 23 assists and five service aces on the day.
The Hawks return to action on Friday, October 22 when they travel to Saratoga, New York to take part in the two day Skidmore Tournament. Their first match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. against St. Michael's college with an game against host Skidmore to follow.
