Tennis Sinks Dolphins

On Tuesday, October 5, the women's tennis team hosted the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island for a conference matchup at the USTA National Tennis Center. The Hawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles and never looked back. The 8-1 win advances Hunter to 9-0, 7-0 in CUNYAC play while the Dolphins drop to 8-4, 5-1 CUNYAC.

The duo of Arielle Kamin and Stefanie Smith  notched the first win for the Hawks as they won their doubles match by a score of 8-1. At first doubles, Epraksi Yushkova and Jennifer Kraham won their match 8-2 while Ericka Jaramillo and Jessica Yi, despite falling behind 3-4, came out on top as well 8-5 to complete the doubles sweep.

Yushkova and Kamin won their singles matches in straight 6-0 sets while Smith, playing fourth singles, won 6-0, 6-1. Kraham had a very tight match at second singles against her counterpart, Ilona Stoyko, but managed to grab the win 7-6, 7-5. Jaramillo took on Yelena Rasporskaya at fifth singles and fell behind 3-6 in the first set but came back to take the second set 6-4 to send it into a tie breaker. Rasporskaya had the upperhand and pulled away from Jaramillo to secure the Dolphin's only win by a score of 10-6.

The Hawks are back in  action on Thursday, October 7 when they take on the Bloodhounds of John Jay. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start and will be held at York College.
