New York, NY - On Monday night, November 15, the women's basketball team hosted the Colonials of Western connecticut State University in their season opener. The Hawks fell into a 27 point first half deficit which proved to be too much to recover from. Hunter drops to 0-1 on the season while WCSU collects their first win.
The Colonials jumped out to an early 13-3 lead, forcing the Hawks to play from behind from the start. Hunter shot just 27.3% from the field and could not connect on any of their four three point attemps while WCSU 16 of 37 from the field and made four of 11 three pointers, enabling to put up 42 points in the first 20 minutes.
The Hawks couldn't seem to get any offense going and struggled on defense as they had no answer to Karli Spera, who recorded a game high of 15 points. With the margin growing, Hunter fell further in the hole, eventually losing by a final score of 81-39.
Kristen Markoe led the Hawks with a team high 15 points and seven rebounds with
Johanna Keilwitz behind her with 10 points.
The Hawks return to action on Friday, November 19 when they host the Tip-Off Tournament featuring Albright, NJCU and Bridgewater.
