Basketball Soars to 60-38 Victory Over Vassar

Poughkeepsie, NY - On Tuesday night, November 23, the men's basketball team took on the Brewers of Vassar College in a non conference match up. The Hawks got on the board first, took a commanding lead and never looked back as they powered their way to their second win of the season, evening their record to 2-2 while Vassar drops to 1-2.

A Maxwell Dubois layup, assisted by Panagiotis Koutsoloukas, got the Hawks on the board first. Koutsoloukas added another two points, followed by a free throw by Joel Cerda put the squad up by five just 2:02 into the opening minutes of the game. Hunter quickly furthered the gap, opening a 10 point lead with nine minutes left, only to continue to build on that, eventually going up by 20 thanks to an Izzy Hoffman layup to end the half.

As the second half got underway, the Hawks held off the Brewers as they would get no closer than a 16 point deficit that reached as high as 25. Hunter out rebounded thier counterparts 41-39 and shot 48 percent from the field compared to Vassar's 19 percent. They also connected on three of nine shots from behind the arc while the Brewers were only 3-17.

Anthony Uter and Caleb McGraw led their respective teams with 15 points a piece while Mark Courtien and Dubois each chipped in with 12. Koutsoloukas was the game high rebounder, pulling down 10 of Hunter's 41 boards.

The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, November 30 when they travel to John Jay for the first conference matchup of the season. The game is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
