New York, NY - On Tuesday night, November 30, the men's basketball team traveled to John Jay to take on the Bloodhounds in their first conference match of the season. After an evenly matched first half, the Hawks surged in the second half, outscoring the Bloodhounds by 18 and serving them their first loss by a score of 51-63 to notch their third win of the season. With the victory, Hunter advances to 3-2, 1-0 CUNYAC while John Jay moves to 4-1, 0-1 CUNYAC.
There were nine lead changes in the first eight minutes of play until Hunter broke the game open and went on a 10-0 run beginning at the 11:56 mark, started by two made free throws from
Maxwell Dubois. They would hold the lead until John Jay began to slowly chip away at the gap thanks to a 19-6 run in the last 5:54 minutes of play, backed by Lionel Lorquet, Jamar Harry and Isaiah Holman who combine for 15 of the points. After a see saw first half, both teams headed into halftime tied at 36 points a piece.
Like the first half, the second 20 minutes got underway and was played evenly as neither team got more than a three point cushion on the other. However, at the 13:59 mark, the Hawks, gained the momentum they needed as
Joel Cerda dished the ball to
Izzy Hoffman who drained a three pointer that sparked a 27-4 run that lasted 8:32. The surge proved to much as the Bloodhounds gave a final late game push to pull within 18, but it was too little too late as they suffered their first loss of the season.
Anthony Uter and Dubois led the scoring for the Hawks as they recorded 14 and 13 points respectively while
Panagiotis Koutsoloukas added 11 points and 14 boards and Eric Klingsberg chipped in with 11 points. Jerome Alexander and Holman led all scorers with 16 points a piece.
The Hawks return to action on Friday, December 3 as they host the Lightning of Lehman college at Homecoming. The game is slated for an 8:30 pm start.
