New York, NY – On Sunday, December 12, the men's basketball team played host to the Pioneers of William Patterson University. A late 12-0 run midway through the second half of the game proved to be the downfall of the Hawks as they dropped their second straight by a score of 71-55. With the loss, Hunter falls to 4-5, 1-1 CUNYAC while William Patterson moves to 5-4.
The first half was evenly contested as neither side got ahead by more than six points. After six lead changes within the first 12 minutes of play, the Pioneers took control of the score, pulling away by six on two occasions. However, the Hawks kept pace with their counterparts and tied the game at 28 a piece with just over a minute to go thanks to two made free throw shots by Joel Cerda. A jumper with three seconds left gave William Patterson the two point advantage heading into overtime.
At the 13:44 mark, things turned sour for Hunter as they were up 41-40, but allowed 12 unanswered points in three and a half minutes. The Pioneers used that momentum to build on their lead, extending it to 16 with 3:13 left to play, ultimately putting the game out of reach.
Three Hawks were in double digits, led by Anthony Uter with 13 and Mark Courtien and Izzy Hoffman with 10 a piece.
The Hawks return to action on December 29 when they travel to Reading, Pennsylvania to take part in the Albright Tournament. They will face Susquehanna University at 6:00 pm in the first of two games in the tournament.
