New York, NY – Junior guard
Rocco Rubino (Brooklyn, NY/Archbishop Molloy) nailed a three-pointer with 1:14 left to tie the game at 81, but Hunter couldn't catch any breaks down the stretch as they fall to the top-seeded York Cardinals 84-88 in the semifinals of the 45th Annual CUNYAC / Con Edison Basketball Championship Tuesday night at Nat Holman Gymnasium on the campus of CCNY.
Freshman guard
Eric Klingsberg (Queens, NY/Holy Cross) led the Hawks with 22 points, while junior guard
Maxwell Dubois (Hollywood, FL/Dillard) added 21 points and seven boards despite being in foul trouble for most of the second half.
Rubino would end up finishing with 20 points.
Cardinal senior guard Nick Hamilton-Lopez had a career best performance, scoring 36 points along with dishing out eight assists. The 2010 CUNYAC Player of the Year Marcel Esonwune scored 17 points with nine rebounds, and senior guard Ryan Exum added 13 points.
Hunter closes out their 2009-10 campaign with a 13-14 record and finished with a fourth best 8-5 conference record, which was an improvement on last season's 8-18/6-7 finish.
