NYU Shooting Too Much for Hawks to Handle

Box Score

New York, NY – On Tuesday night, the men's basketball team traveled down to NYU to take on the Violets in a non conference matchup. The Violet's impressive 55.9 field goal percentage stole the show as the Hawks didn't have an answer to stop them. With the gap widening as the game progressed, the Hawks would suffer their seventh loss of the season by way of an 85-59 score, putting them at 7-7, 2-2 CUNYAC while NYU advances to 11-1.

Panagiotis Koutsoloukas kicked off the game with a made jumper, but NYU responded with 11 straight unanswered points that started with a layup by Andy Stein. At the 8:23 mark, a made three pointer and jumper by Jason Cole brought his team to within eight points, but the Violets surged in the final seven minutes, extending their lead to 17 to head into half time.

In the second half, NYU connected on just under 60 percent of their shots, shooting 16 of 27 from the field compared to the Hawks 11 of 29, which contributed to extending their lead which would reach as high as 28. Hunter, after out rebounding their counterparts 21-17 in the first half, found themselves on the short end of a 16 rebound differential.

Cole led the Hawks with 14 points while teammate Mark Courtein chipped in with 11 of his own. Stein of the Violets had a game high of 20 points while teammates Carl Yaffe and Kyle Stockmal had 11 and 13 points respectively.

Hunter returns to action on Friday, January 14 when they play host to the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College in a conference contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
