JERSEY CITY, NJ–The Hunter College women's volleyball team defeated New Jersey City University in straight sets to open the NJCU Tri-Match.
The Hawks were led by Katina Boutis, who notched 27 assists. Christine Luebcke hit .346 and registered a match high of 12 kills (12-3-26), as Lucia Stosic added 10 kills and two blocks, and Jaclyn Hadfield hit .625 with five kills and no errors in two sets of action. Kim Hirten added a match high 14 digs and four aces.
Hunter drilled 18 kills and hit .300 as a team in their 25-21 first set victory. The teams battled to ten ties and five lead changes. NJCU tied the set at 20, but aces from Paulina Jobczyk and Hirten as well as kills from Luebcke and Stosic propelled the Hawks through the final moments of the set.
In the second set, Hunter jumped out to a 17-7 lead, posting a .371 attack percentage and 16 kills. Taylor Kordich saw her only action of the match, slamming five kills and hitting .714. After opening a 20-12 lead in the third set, the Hawks held on for a 25-18 win to clinch the three-set win.
Hunter recorded a .248 hitting percentage for the match and finished with 44 kills and just 18 errors, extending their lead in their all-time series against NJCU to 9-5.
