RESULTS
NEW YORK, NY – The second-seeded Hunter College Hawks knocked off the seventh-seeded John Jay College Bloodhounds, 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Hunter College Sportsplex to advance to the semi-finals in the CUNY Athletic Conference/Hospital for Special Surgery Women's Tennis Championship.
The Hawks dominated in doubles with Jennifer Kraham and Flavia Guidi teaming up to down Ashley Marrero and Denise Batista, 8-0 in flight #1. Jane Selegean and Gina Yeo combined for the same result, topping Lauren Mallon and Nelly Vega in flight #2. Finally, Hawk tandem Stephanie Ahwireng and Caroline Kaleda defeated the Bloodhound duo Dana Dotti and Lilian Calix, 8-0 to give the Hawks a 3-0 advantage moving into singles.
The Hawks needed just two wins in singles play to solidify today's victory and advance to the semis. Selegean and Kraham both made quick work of their opponents, taking down Marrero and Mallon in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) respectively. Guidi won the first set 6-0 and was leading Batista 3-0 in the second before the Hawks were declared today's winners.
Hunter now awaits their opponent and will take on the winner of #3 York (5-3) vs. #6 Baruch (3-5), whose match was postponed on account of rain and will now take place tomorrow, Thursday, October 20 at 3:30pm.
The Hawks' semi-final match-up is slated for Friday, October 21 at 4 pm and will be played at the USTA National Tennis Center.
