NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter College women's volleyball team defeated the Brooklyn Bulldogs in straight sets, 3-0 (25-7, 25-17 and 25-19) to advance to the CUNYAC / Con Edison finals versus the second-seeded Baruch Bearcats at the Nat Holman Gymnasium this evening.
Hunter claimed the 25-7 with relative ease in the first set however the Bulldogs would battle back in two and three. The Hawks maintained composure and dug deep to close out both sets, killing the Bulldogs' rallies in each set to earn the 25-17 and 25-19 wins respectively.
The Hawks were led by senior Christine Luebcke who managed 16 kills on .625 hitting, adding three service aces. Fellow senior Mallory Grubler made her dynamic return to the court after being sidelined the greater part of the season due to injury and tallied eight kills and hit .429. Katina Boutis registered 39 assists directing the Hawks to victory.
As a team, Hunter finished the match with 44 kills on .347 hitting. The Hawks finished with four services aces and seven team blocks.
The Hawks improve to 21-10 on the year while the Bearcats fall to 12-13.
Hunter returns to the court at 8pm to take on the second-seeded Baruch Bearcats in the chase for their 21st overall and second consecutive CUNYAC Championship.
