Hawks Down York, 55-34 to Remain Unbeaten

NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter College women's swimming team won its third consecutive match and second straight in CUNY Athletic Conference competition as the Hawks downed the visiting Cardinals from York College, 55-34 on Tuesday evening in the North Pool.

Hunter finished the meet with 14 top-three finishes, including seven first place wins in 11 events starting with the 200-yard medley relay which saw Marian Wu, Sara Pazmino, Courtney McEvoy Lee and Tiffany Magno earn first in a time of 2:07.57. Hunter's second medley team took third in the race as Helena Mapoy, Josie Joseph, Anna Pasieka and Paulina Backiel swam in a time of 2:38.60.

In the 1000 yard freestyle, Briana DiGiore finished first in 12:34.15 while teammate Ivanna Tellez was second, coming in at 13:01.88. Hunter combined for another 1-2 finish in the 200 yard freestyle as Jennifer Dzurita (2:12.62) and Chryzl Goco (2:19.52) took first and second respectively.

The 50 yard freestyle race told a similar tale this time with Pazmino finishing first in 28.37 and Christina Chu right behind her in 30.25. Wu claimed first place in the 200 yard individual medley in 2:39.70 while Juliette Collazo took second in 2:46.37.

Hunter's swimmers continued their impressive efforts in the 100 yard butterfly which saw McEvoy Lee claim first in 1:09.86 with teammate Goco on her heels to take second in 1:11.59. The Hawks rounded out the 100 yard freestyle with a pair of good swims from Dzurita who earned first place in 59.86 and Juliette Collazo who took second in 1:10.30.

The Hawks swam exhibition in the final four events. Hunter returns to the pool this Friday, November 11 when they hit the road to take on Manhattan College at 6:30 pm.
