NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter College women's fencing team defeated the Black Knights of Army this evening 14-13, while the men suffered a 19-8 defeat against the visitors at the Hunter Sportsplex on Homecoming evening.
In the women's epee, the team including senior
Wendy Mak, senior
Nina Hsu, and junior
Canny Fung defeated Army's team with a score of 5-4. All of the ladies went 2-1 in their respective bouts. Over on the foil side, the team of senior
Natalia Dittren, freshman
Lila Altman, and sophomore
Irene Yenko also defeated Army's team with a score of 5-4, each going 2-1 in those bouts. After a tough fight, the sabre team consisting of Melinick, junior
Monica Yuen, and sophomore
Adithi Mohan lost 5-4, despite Melnick going a perfect 3-0 in her bouts.
In men's epee, freshman
Hunter Lackowitz and senior
Justin Lokossou were the only Hawks to grab a bout win, while sophomore
Nicholas Burney accounted for the two wins in the 7-2 loss in the foil division. The sabre event seemed the closest, but after a hard battle the Hawks fell 5-4. Junior Issac Orbe won two of his bouts while sophomore
Alexis Chavez won two as well.
The women's fencing team returns to action on December 4th when they compete in the Christmas Invitational. The men's fencing team is back in action when they face Yeshiva University on December 11
th at 10:00am.
