Fencing Splits Against Army

NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter College women's fencing team defeated the Black Knights of Army this evening 14-13, while the men suffered a 19-8 defeat against the visitors at the Hunter Sportsplex on Homecoming evening.

In the women's epee, the team including senior Wendy Mak, senior Nina Hsu, and  junior Canny Fung defeated Army's team with a score of 5-4.  All of the ladies went 2-1 in their respective bouts.   Over on the foil side, the team of senior Natalia Dittren,  freshman Lila Altman, and sophomore Irene Yenko also defeated Army's team with a score of 5-4, each going 2-1 in those bouts.  After a tough fight, the sabre team consisting of Melinick, junior Monica Yuen, and sophomore Adithi Mohan lost 5-4, despite Melnick going a perfect 3-0 in her bouts.

In men's epee, freshman Hunter Lackowitz and senior Justin Lokossou were the only Hawks to grab a bout win, while sophomore Nicholas Burney accounted for the two wins in the 7-2 loss in the foil division.  The sabre event seemed the closest, but after a hard battle the Hawks fell 5-4.  Junior Issac Orbe won two of his bouts while sophomore Alexis Chavez won two as well.

The women's fencing team returns to action on December 4th when they compete in the Christmas Invitational. The men's fencing team is back in action when they face Yeshiva University on December 11th at 10:00am.
