Hawks Lead Wire to Wire in Win Over John Jay

New York, NY - On Wednesday night, February 2nd, the men's basketball team played host to the Bloodhounds of John Jay College in a conference matchup. From the start, the Hawks would dominate the Bloodhounds, never trailing throughout the entire game, to win, 69-61. With the victory, the Hawks move to 10-10, and 5-4 in the CUNYAC while the bloodhounds fall to 8-14, 2-8 in the CUNYAC.

The Hawks got on the board first with a layup by Senior Center Panagiotis Koutsoloukas and then a jumper by Junior Forward Anthony Uter, gave them a quick 4-0 lead.    As the half approached, after the Hawks led by 6, a layup by Bloodhound Jamar Harry, at 2:37 in the first half tied the game, 27-27. However, the Hawks responded and ended the first half leading the Bloodhounds by 3.

In the second half, the Hawks put together a great team effort with the entire roster scoring, as they outpaced the Bloodhounds with a 55% to 39.4% FG percentage.  At 9:17 left, the hawks led by as many as 15 points, 56-41. Despite the Bloodhounds attempts to come back, and while cutting the Hawks' lead to 5 with 1:10 remaining in the game, the hawks soared to a victory by 8 points.

Uter led the Hawks with 14 points and 9 rebounds while Sophomore Guard Izzy Hoffman ended the game with 11 points. Junior Guards Joel Cerda and Mark Courtien had 10 and 8 points respectively, while Jason Cole, Jeffrey Daza, and Koutsoloukas all finished the night with 6 points each.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday, February 5th when they travel to Pomona, NJ to take on the Ospreys of Richard Stockton in a non-conference match. The game is scheduled to start at 3 pm.
