Women's Volleyball Defeats Lehman
For Fourth Straight Victory

BRONX, NY - The Hunter College women's volleyball team defeated Lehman College to win their fourth-straight match and remain undefeated in CUNY Athletic Conference play.

Karolina Krauze led the Hawks with 10 kills and Katina Boutis tallied 30 assists. Kim Hirten led the defense with 16 digs as Christine Luebcke and Alisa Jaganjac added 13 each.

After Hunter won the first set 25-17, the Lightning struck right back and won the second set by an identical score. The win ended a ten-set winning streak for the Hawks, their first loss in conference play.

In the third set, Hunter led by as many as nine points. With the score 22-14, Mallory Grubler headed behind the service line. But a rare service error started a Lehman run, as Boutis fed Paulina Jobczyk to end their five-point rally. The Lightning immediately regained the serve, and added two more points before the Boutis-Jobczyk connection once again regained service. Hunter gave the serve right back to Lehman, who took the next three to tie the set at 24-24. A Lighting attack error sent Jaganjac behind the service line, and after her serve was returned Grubler connected on a pass from Krauze to seal a 26-24 victory.

In the fourth set, the Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead, connecting on ten of the first twelve points. Gruber served back-to-back aces to give Hunter a 16-6 lead. After a sideout, the Hawks took seven of the next nine points for a thirteen-point 23-10 lead. But the Lightning responded, winning eight of the next nine points to close the deficit to seven, including four-straight at match point. Krauze took a pass from Mia Alexis De Claro for the final kill of the match, as the Hawks won the fourth set 25-17.

Hunter (5-3, 3-0 CUNYAC) will travel to New Jersey to face Rutgers-Newark this Saturday at 3:30pm in a non-conference match.
