Swimming Closes Out CUNYAC Action with 59-35 Win Over John Jay

NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter College women's swimming team closed out regular season CUNYAC competition with a 59-35 victory over John Jay College at John Jay Pool on Tuesday evening.

The Hawks dominated, winning the first nine events before exhibitioning the final two to improve to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the CUNYAC. John Jay drops to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Hunter's "A" squad won the 200 yard medley relay in 2:16.48, a good 12 second ahead of the competition as Chryzl Goco, Wynette Almeida, Ivanna Tellez and Marian Wu swam for the victory.

Briana DiGiore then won the 1000 yard freestyle, taking first in 12:30.89, nearly two and a half minutes ahead of second place.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Charlotte Collazo took first place in 2:31.72 while Axinia Gamez claimed third place in 2:42.73.

Tiffany Magno swam into first place in the 50 yard freestyle, doing so in 28.68 and Priscila Naula earned a third place finish in 37.74.

Courtney McEvoy Lee won first place in the 200 yard individual medley in 2:40.00 ahead of teammate Gloria Reyna who finished second in 2:57.09.

Juliette Collazo kept the Hawks winning ways going in the 100 yard butterfly as she won the race in 1:18.77 while Sarah McGovern came in third in 1:27.73.

Goco won the 100 yard freestyle, taking the race in 1:02.12 while Christina Chu was not far behind in third place with a 1:09.39 timestamp.

The 100 yard backstroke saw Wu claim first place in 1:11.48 as Helena Mapoy came in third in 1:25.40.

Finally, the Hawks won the 500 yard freestyle as Ivanna Tellez took the top spot in 6:23.65 ahead of McEvoy Lee who finished second in 6:36.08.

The Hawks return to non-conference action this Friday, January 20th as they welcome Western Connecticut to the North Pool at 3pm.
