Swimming Drops Season Opener

RESULTS

STATEN ISLAND, NY - On Thursday, October 25th the women's swimming team traveled to CSI to take on the Dolphins in their first meet of the 2012-2013 campaign.  After a back and fourth battle in the pool, the Hawks ultimately dropped the meet with a close score of 119-116.  With the loss, Hunter drops to 0-1 while the Dolphins improve to 1-0.

Sophomore Chryzl Goco got things started for the Hawks as she placed 1st in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 13:54.73, over two minutes ahead of second place. Goco also grabbed 1st in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.03.  Junior Jennifer Dzurita placed 1st in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:17.70 while also placing 1st in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 6:27.56.  Freshman Niky Wu made her college debut in the 50 yard freestyle, and placed 1st with a time of 28.51. Wu also got 1st place in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:05.51. Sophomore Courtney McEvoy Lee won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:11.79.

Due to misplaced flags and markers, a re-do of the 200-yard Medley Relay occured at the end of the meet.  Both teams needed this race to win the race.  Unfortunately the Hawks placed second with a time of 2:25.07, while CSI's team came in first with 2:11.46, giving the Doplhins their first win of the season.

The Hawks are back in the pool on Tuesday, November 6th when they travel to Jamica, Queens to take on the Cardinals of York College.  The meet is set for a 6pm start.
