NEW YORK, NY - The women's volleyball team participated in the New York State Challenge hosted by NYU last weekend starting on Friday, October 26th. The Hawks went 1-3 at the tournament, beating out CUNYAC foe Brooklyn College 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-17).
Against Brooklyn, the Hawks were led by freshman
Brianna O'Hagan who had an impressive 6 kills, 4 aces, and 4 digs. Right behind her was senior captain
Kim Hirten with 5 kills and 9 digs. Senior captain
Mia Alexis De Claro tallied 17 assits for the Hawks.
Hunter's second match of the challenge was against Elmire College, where the Soaring Eagels swept the Hawks 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-15). Sophomore
Lucia Stosic had 7 kills and 5 digs while sophomore
Stephanie Taibe had 6 kills and 3 digs.
On Saturday, October 27th the Hawks started off the day against the Tigers of RIT. After a hard fought third set win with a score of 30-28, the women ultimately fell in the fourth to drop the match 3-1 (18-25, 25-15, 30-28, 14-25). Stosic and O'Hagan led the Hawks with 10 kills a piece while Hirten and sophomore
Taylor Kordich had 6. De Claro had 31 assists.
The women then went on to play the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College, losing in 3 sets (25-16, 25-13, 25-20). Kordich led the squad with 8 kills and 7 digs while De Claro tallied 22 assists.
The Hawks are back in action when they start post-season play in the CUNYAC Tournament. The #2 seeded Hawks play the #3 seed CCNY at 4pm on Friday, November 2nd at CCNY.
