Men's Basketball Stopped by Bloodhounds

BOX SCORE

NEW YORK, NY - Last night, the Hunter College Hawks traveled cross-town to compete against conference foes, the Bloodhounds of John Jay.  Depsite junior Lorenzo Brown's team-high of 17 points, five steals and an outstanding nine rebounds, the Hawks fell 80-65.  With the loss, Hunter drops to 4-6, 1-2 CUNYAC while John Jay improves to 5-1, 3-0 CUNYAC.

For most of the first half the Hawks managed to stay within single digits of their opponents, but weren't able to grab a lead.  Unforunately for Hunter, John Jay put together a huge rally with five minutes left in the first, giving themselves a comfortable double-digit lead going into half time, 44-27.

The Bloodhounds led by more than 16 through the first 18 minutes of the second half, with Hunter putting together a mild run in the final few minutes, but John Jay's lead was too great for the Hawks to catch up.  Hunter outscored the Bloodhounds 38-36 in the second half.

Hunter was plagued by turnovers, having 27 total along with 17 steals against them.

Besides Brown, the Hawks were led by CUNYAC/Con Edison Rookie of the Week Taulant Ibraj, who netted 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals.  Sophomore Matthew Hunter chipped in with 13 points going 5-12 on the floor with seven rebounds.  John Jay was lead by Isaiah Holman who tallied 19 points, six rebounds, and six steals.

The Hawks are back in action on December 30th, when they travel to Newark, NJ to compete against the Scarlet Raiders.  The game is slated for a 3pm start.
