Hawks Fall 65-63 in OT at CCNY

BOX SCORE

NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter College men's basketball team battled City College of New York back and forth this evening but in the end, the Hawks couldn't outlast the Beavers in a 65-63 overtime loss at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.

Despite a lack of scoring early on in the overtime period, CCNY took advantage of two Hunter miscues, converting late turnovers into five points as the Beavers drained a three-pointer with 45 seconds remaining which proved to be the difference maker in tonight's loss.

Hunter falls to 11-12 and 6-5 in the CUNYAC while CCNY captures just its second win on the year, improving to 2-21 overall and 1-10 in the league.

Anthony Uter led the Hawks with 15 points while Mark Courtien and Joel Cerda added 14 and 13 respectively to help the Hawks offensively. As a team, Hunter finished the game, shooting 41% from the floor and 48% from the charity stripe.

Playing on its home court, CCNY held a seven-point advantage late in the first half before Hunter mounted a 9-1 run to close out the half tied at 30-all. The second half proved to be an evenly matched affair as neither team led by more than four points in a stanza which featured six ties and four lead changes.

Still, the Beavers managed to take control of the game late, establishing a three-point advantage with 1:16 left to play in regulation. The Hawks remained composed as Cerda and Uter each hit one free throw apiece to bring the game within one (56-55). Then, a foul with five seconds left to play sent Panagiotis Koutsoloukas to the line and the senior hit the first of two free throws to send the game to overtime, tied at 56-56.

Hunter returns to the court this Saturday, February 11 at 4pm for its CUNYAC regular season finale on the road against divisional rival Baruch College.
