Women's Volleyball Drops 3-0 Match to Rivals Baruch

The Hawks pulled within three in the second game, but would get no closer.

New York, N.Y. - The women's volleyball team hosted city rivals Baruch College in CUNYAC matchup earlier this evening. After the Bearcats took the first game handily and held off a charging Hawk comeback in the second while closing out the third for a clean three game sweep, 25-16, 25-22, 25-11. With the loss, Hunter moves to 7-5, 4-1 CUNYAC while Baruch advances to 10-4, 5-0 in conference play.

The Hawks struggled early on, tallying just three total team kills and had four errors in the first while their counterparts hammered home an impressive 11 kills with just five errors. In the second, Hunter began playing to their potential, staying close to the visitors and collecting 10 kills, but it was not enough as the Bearcats outdid them with four more. Closing otu the match, Baruch continued to pour it on with 16 team kills while Hunter did not have an answer and fell 14.

Hunter was led by Taylor Kordich and Lucia Stosic who each tallied six kills apiece. Paulina Jobcyzk registered eight digs while setter Mia De Carlo was credited with nine assists.

Rebecca Peralta and Jessica Wu provided much of the offense for Baruch, combining for a total of 25 kills while Melinda Santiago did her part on defense with a game high of 12 digs to go along with her 23 assists.

The Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, September 25 when they take on New Jersey City University in Jersey City, NJ at 6pm.
