NEW YORK, NY - The men's basketball team hosted the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College last night in a CUNYAC match-up at the Hunter Sportsplex. After taking a commanding 15 point lead at half time, the men were outscored 35-25 in the second but it wasn't enough for the Bulldogs as the Hawks walked away with the victory. With the win, the Hawks improve to 7-9, 4-3 CUNYAC while Brooklyn drops to 3-10, 2-5 CUNYAC.
The Hawks never trailed in the game, as the closet the Bulldogs got was with five minutes remaining in the first half getting the score to 20-19, but the Hawks used a 10-0 run to give themselves a comfortable 39-24 lead at the half.
The men continued to be stead in the second half, as Brooklyn continued to attempt to close the gap. The Bulldogs got within two, 61-59 after a free throw from Jeffrey Noel with 21 seconds left in regulation, but good free throws from senior Peter Koutsolokas and freshman
Ben Mayell lifted the Hawks to a 64-59 victory.
Junior
Lester Anim led the Hawks with a team-high of 17 points, while freshmen
Brian Kruger and
Taulant Ibraj added nine and eight points, respectively. Junior
Lorenzo Brown had a game-high of 12 rebounds, while sophomore
Eric Kippins finished with seven points and eight rebounds. Koutsolokas netted six points and eight rebounds.
The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, January 23rd when they travel downtown to Baruch College. Tip-off is set for 7pm.
