MADISON, NJ - The men's basketball team suffered a tough 89-76 loss to the Devils of FDU-Florham while on the road last night in a non-conference match-up. With the loss, the men drop to 4-8, 1-3 CUNYAC while the Devils improve to 1-1 MAC.
The Hawks struggled to find their grove at the Ferguson Recreation Center, as the Devils took an early 21-4 led in the first half with 12:37 left. Hunter then rallied with 6:14 remaining, cutting FDU's led to ten points. The Hawks made a push to the end of the half, going on a 12-2 run to make it 41-34 at half time.
The second half deemed closer for the Hawks, as they were able to pull within four points, 45-41 but the Devils responded with a 10-2 run to take a 55-43 lead with 14:52 left in regulation.
Hunter then reeled off a quick 7-0 run to make it 63-58 with 9:31 to play. That's as close as FDU would let them get though, as the Devils went on a 23-11 run over the next eight minutes to take an 86-69 lead on their way to the 89-76 victory.
After missing most the first half of the season due to an injury, sophomore
Jerrell Antley came off the bench in his second game back to pace the Hawks with 15 points, going 4-5 on the floor and adding two assists. Freshman
Brian Kruger chipped in with 12 points going 4-6 on the floor while freshman
Taulant Ibraj added nine points going 3-5 behind the arc. Senior
Peter Koutsoloukas led in assists with five.
The Devils had three players who scored 20 points or better, with Trevor Sykes netting 23, Derek Hall scoring 21, and Mike Williamson having 20 guiding the Devils to a victory.
The Hawks are back in action on Friday, January 4th when they host the Beavers of CCNY in a conference game. The game is slated for a 7pm start.
