New York, N.Y. – The men's basketball team played host to the Bloodhounds of John Jay last night in their second meeting of the season. The Hawks were unable to overcome the Bloodhounds, dropping a 73-62 decision. With the loss, the Hawks drop to 7-14, 4-8 CUNYAC and currently stand in 7
th place in the conference. The Bloodhounds improve to 13-8, 9-3 CUNYAC and have now won the CUNYAC North Division.
The Hawks were led by
Lester Anim, who scored a team-high of 15 points and nine rebounds and
Jerrell Antley who netted 13 points and three boards. Freshman
Robert Borusiewicz added eight points and four rebounds while
Eric Kippins added seven points and seven rebounds.
The Bloodhounds were led by Michael Howard who scored a game-high of 22 points.
The Hawks only took the lead once in the game, after a good three-pointer from freshman
Taulant Ibraj, putting his team up 5-4 at 17:57 in the first half. The Bloodhounds then went on a 12-2 run in the next six minutes putting themselves in front 16-7 at 12:22. John Jay steadily kept their lead until half time, ahead 36-29.
The Bloodhounds continued to grow their lead in the second, being up by 15 points with 11:52 remaining in regulation. The Hawks tried to claw their way back, closing the gap to eight points with 47 seconds left from a two good free throws from Anim, but John Jay proved too strong and closed out the game 73-62.
The Hawks are back in action on Saturday, February 2
nd when they travel uptown to compete against the Beavers of CCNY.
