NEW YORK, NY – On Friday, January 4
th the men's basketball team played host to the Beavers of CCNY in a conference game. Three double-doubles and 60 team rebounds, the Hawks were outstanding in dismantling the Beavers with 89-80 deficit. With the win, Hunter improves to 5-8, 2-3 CUNYAC while CCNY falls to 4-9, 0-5 CUNYAC.
Hunter had a comfortable 14 point led going into the second half, but a late surge by the Beavers with Brandon Reeves scoring 12 points alone in the second half, the Hawks found themselves only up by two with three minutes left in regulation, 72-70. The Hawks were able to grind out four good free throws from junior
Lester Anim and two from freshman
Ben Mayell in the final minutes, giving themselves an 89-80 victory.
The Hawks were led by freshman
Robert Borusiewicz who was part of the three that had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Junior
Lorenzo Brown was right behind him with 11 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks, while junior forward
Lester Anim had an impressive 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Mayell netted 12 points in the victory along with senior
Peter Koutsoloukas having eight rebounds.
CCNY were led by Reeves who had 16 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks while teammate Anthony Lewis also had 16 points, four rebounds, and two steals.
The Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, January 8
th when they travel to NYU to compete against the Violets in a non-conference match up. The game is set for a 7:00pm start.
