Men's Basketball Outplayed by NYU

Hawks drop tough 81-65 decision to Violets

NEW YORK, NY – On Tuesday, January 8th the men's basketball team traveled downtown to the Cole Sports Center to play the Violets of NYU in a non-conference game.  After trailing at half-time, NYU was able to overpower the Hawks, grabbing the win 81-65. With the loss, Hunter drops to 5-9 while NYU improves to 10-2.

During the first half the Hawks were plagued by nine turnovers and allowed NYU to shoot 54% from the floor leaving the Hawks down 38-24 at the break. NYU's Carl Yaffe 14 points led all scorers, while senior Peter Koutsoloukas led the Hawks with seven points, going 3-5 from the floor going into the second.

A good layup by NYU's Iyoha Agho with 5:54 remaining in the second half gave the Violets their biggest lead of the night, up by 28 points 70-42.  The Hawks were able to close that gap, being down only by 14 with 1:53 left, but the damage was already done  with the final score being 81-65.

The Hawks were led by junior Lorenzo Brown who netted 11 points and eight rebounds, along with six steals.  Junior Lester Anim also scored 11 points while freshman Robert Borusiewicz had six rebounds.
NYU was led by Yaffe who had a game high of 23 points and five rebounds.

The Hawks are back on the road on Friday, January 11th when they travel to Jamaica to compete against the Cardinals of York College. Tip-off is set for an 8pm start.
