RESULTS
Flushing, N.Y - The women's tennis team fell 5-0 to the number one seed, the Dolphins of Staten Island in the semi-finals of the CUNYAC/HSS Championships. This is the first time in fourteen years that the Hawks will not appear in the finals. The Dolphins go on to play Brooklyn College in the finals on Saturday.
Staten Island started off strong, capturing all three doubles. The Dolphin team of Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert and Ilona Stoyko defeated
Shena Joseph and
Janani Bavanandan at first doubles, 8-4. Sophia Varriano and Jean Baak ousted the Hawks' Stephanie Ahiwreng and
Abigail Rojas 8-1 at second doubles while Madiha Mulla and Nozima Toshpulatova defeated
Angelina Usherenko and
Sara Beck 8-4 at third doubles.
Bragerton-Nasert defeated Usherenko 6-0, 6-0 and Toshpulatove defeated Beck 6-1, 6-1 in singles to seal the deal for the Dolphins.
The Hawks finish their season with a 5-7 record.
