New York, NY – The men's basketball team traveled uptown to compete against the Beavers of CCNY for the second time this season this past Saturday night. After a back and forth battle in the first half, the Beavers were able to pull away in the second and defeated the Hawks 77-65. With the loss, the Hawks drop to 8-13, 4-9 CUNYAC while the Beavers improve to 7-15, 4-9 CUNYAC.
Hunter was led by
Jerrell Antley who scored a team high of 12 points, followed by
Peter Koutsoloukas who had eight points and nine rebounds.
Taulant Ibraj chipped in with eight points while
Brian Kruger added seven. The Beavers were led by Zachary Heiss and Jordan Ortega who both scored 18 points, followed by Terence Johnston who netted 17.
During the first half, the biggest lead by the Hawks was by six at 5:02 after a good layup by
Ben Mayell. After fouls made by Hunter in the final four minutes of the first half, the Beavers took advantage of the free-throws going 6-9 from the charity stripe in the final minutes of the first half, giving themselves a narrow four point lead, 31-27 going into the second.
Tying the score at 35-35 after a good free throw from Koutsoloukas at 14:21, Hunter wasn't able to take the lead after, as CCNY went up by as much as 19 points.
The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, February 6
th when host York College. Tip off is set for a 7:00pm start.
