Men's Basketball Comes Up Short Against York

BOX SCORE

New York, N.Y. – The men's basketball team dropped a disappointing loss to the Cardinals of York College last night with the Cardinals avenging a loss from earlier in the season.  The Hawks now drop to 7-16, 4-10 CUNYAC while the Cardinals improve to 10-13, 6-8 CUNYAC.

The Hawks were led by senior Peter Koutsoloukas who barely missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds followed by Taulant Ibraj who scored 12 points and three boards. Lester Anim netted 10 points and five boards while Jerrell Antley chipped in with eight points.

York was led by Tony Vails, who scored a game-high of 25 points with seven rebounds.  Shamir Wilkinson recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards and Du'Quan Lawson finished with a career-high 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

Despite the Hawks leading 35-32 at halftime, the Cardinals controlled the second half outscoring Hunter 40-29 en route to the victory. York's biggest lead was at 4:10 remaining in regulation after a good free throw by Lawson, making the score 61-47. The Hawks attempted to close the gap in the final minutes of the game, with a good jumper at 1:09 by Ibraj and a good three pointer from Brian Kruger with four seconds left, but the Cardinals lead was too great.

The Hawks are back in action on Saturday, February 9th when they travel to Brooklyn College to take on the Bulldogs for the second time this season.
