New York, NY - The Hawks defeated the Cardinals of York College in straight-sets 3-0 (25-6, 25-12, 25-16) on Tuesday, September 17
th in their CUNYAC home-opener.
Hunter netted a season-high 18 aces on York.
Kristine Ciurcina led the attack with eight service aces and
Taylor Kordich added four aces. The Hawks dominated the Cardinals with 31 kills on 70 attempts for a season-high attack percentage of .271.
York combined for 14 kills with 10 errors falling to an overall record of 1-6.
Taylor Kordich led with a game-high eight kills on 14 attempts while
Lucia Stosic and
Brianna O'Hagan both recorded five kills each.
Kristine Ciurcina had 17 assists to lead the Hawks and
Taylor Kordich pitched in with six.
Defensively,
Camille Newkirk had five digs and
Christine Chen gathered a game-high eight digs for the Hawks.
"We served well and the team was able to set a nice flow throughout the match by establishing good passing early in the game," stated Head Coach
Val Lang. "Bringing together all the individual talent we have to build a team takes work and time so we are happy to start seeing improvement every day. Tomorrow we are back to the drawing board to adjust our game plan so we can bring a strong challenge to Baruch on Thursday."
