BOX SCORE 2 STATEN ISLAND, NY – The women's volleyball team earned two wins on Monday at the CUNYAC multi-match hosted by the College of Staten Island, giving the Hawks a two game lead with two CUNYAC matches remaining on their schedule.
The Hawks defeated Lehman College 25-4, 25-14, 25-8 in their first match and then defeated rival Baruch College 25-19, 25-13, 25-22. The wins improved the Hawks record to 13-13 overall and 6-0 in CUNYAC play.
Hunter 3 Lehman 0 (25-4, 25-14, 25-8) The Hawks dominated the first set smashing 13 kills and hitting .650% as a team, the second set the Hawks once again showed their poise and toughness in the 25-14 win. The Hawks dominated the third set from the start as they hit 12 kills as a team and hit .625%.
CUNYAC Rookie of the Week
Julia Connolly led the Hawks with 11 kills while hitting .529%.
Samantha Barrett,
Lucia Stosic and
Karolina Gajda each had six kills, while Barrett totaled five solo blocks and Stosic had four solo blocks.
Kristine Ciurcina dished out 25 assists.
Hunter 3 Baruch 0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-22) The Hawks took on rival Baruch in their final match of the day and earned a sweep. The first set the Hawks were dominant at the net smashing 17 kills and .387% as a team. In the second and third sets, the Hawks showed their mental strength and resolve as they smashed 28 kills combined.
Stosic and Gajda led the Hawks attack smashing 13 and 11 kills respectively, while Connolly had eight kills. Ciurcina was excellent again totaling 33 assists.
The Hawks return to action this weekend when they host Elmira College and Rutgers-Camden in a tri-match at the Hunter Sportsplex.
