FLUSHING, NY – The Hunter Women's Tennis team took on John Jay Friday afternoon with the Hawks falling short in the conference matchup as the Bloodhounds walked away with the close 5-4 victory.
During doubles play the #1 doubles pair,
Abigail Rojas and
Paulina Szegda lost to their opponents, 8-3. #2 doubles duo
Janani Bavanandan and
Marie Visker bounced back with an 8-5 win followed by a triumphant landslide 8-1 victory from #3 pair of
Angelina Usherenko and
Sara Beck.
The Hawks showed signs of life in singles play with victories from Usherenko at 6-1, 6-0 and Beck winning 6-1, 6-0. However, the Bloodhounds proved too strong as they defeated the Hawks in the remaining matches. The best singles match of the day was in the #5 matchup.
Pauline McGlone dropped a tough one to Natalie Cervantes 7-5, 7-5.
The Hawks currently sit at 3-4 overall and 2-1 in CUNYAC play. They return to face another conference foe Brooklyn College on Wednesday, October 8 at 4pm.
