RESULTS
BROOKLYN, NY – The Hunter women's tennis team took on Brooklyn College Wednesday afternoon in a CUNYAC matchup. The Hawks were able to defeat the Bulldogs 6-3, evening their record to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in CUNYAC play.
The Hawks started out in doubles winning 2-of-3. Playing at #2 doubles,
Angelina Usherenko &
Sara Beck remained undefeated, winning their match 8-5. Playing at #3 doubles,
Janani Bavanandan &
Marie Visker defeated their opponent 8-3.
"Winning two matches in doubles gave us some good momentum going into singles," said head coach
Erienne Gale.
In the singles competition, playing at #2,
Julia Vranas played an excellent match defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-1. Playing #6 singles,
Sara Beck easily defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to give the Hawks a 4-3 match lead with #3 and #4 singles matches still going on.
"Julia and Sara both had great matches and their being able to give us a 4-3 lead was great," said coach Gale.
In the #3 singles matchup Bavanandan fought hard winning the match 6-4, 6-4 and in the #4 matchup Usherenko was able to win her match 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), to secure the Hawks 6-3 victory.
"Janani and Angelina both fought hard to win the second sets," said coach Gale. "We were able to play with excitement from start to finish and I'm really proud of the team for doing that."
The Hawks return to action Saturday when they will host rival Baruch College. The match will be played at the USTA National Tennis Center at 12pm.
