BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 THROGGS NECK, NY - The Hunter men's basketball team opened their 2014-15 season with a 66-58 victory over Maritime College on Saturday afternoon and a 68-58 victory over U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Sunday afternoon in the 2014 Admirals Classic.

"It's an honor to compete in the Admiral's Classic," said head coach Shay Berry. "We are thrilled to get these two hard fought victories and proud of my team opening up the season 2-0"

Against Maritimie, Lester Anim led the Hawks with a game high 17 points, the senior forward also grabbed a team high eight rebounds. Robert Borusiewicz chipped in with 12 points and Brian Kruger scored 10.

"Lester really competed and played hard," said coach Berry. "He was tough on the defensive glass and was aggressive getting to the free throw line."

The Hawks shot 43% from the field and held the Privateers to just over 40%.

Maritime was led by T'Vaughn Gibson's 11 points.

In Sunday's game against USMMA, the Hawks were led by junior Brian Kruger's team high 24 points. He also had three rebounds, three assists, five steals and zero turnovers.

"Brian was really aggressive and filled up the stat sheet," said coach Berry.

The Hawks held their opponents to 34% shooting from the field and got to the free throw line 34 times, led by Kruger's 14-for-14 day at the line.

Taulant Ibraj came off the bench and scored 11 points, including hitting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.

"We played solid defense all weekend," said coach Berry. "We got better as the weekend progressed and along with our defense our free throw shooting was a big key for our success."

The Hawks return to action Tuesday night in the 2014-15 home opener against Yeshiva University.
