BOX SCORE STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Hunter Hawks men's basketball team lost the CUNYAC season opener 81-66 to the College of Staten Island on Tuesday night. The Hawks fall to 3-3 on the season heading into the Thanksgiving holiday break.
The Hawks got balanced scoring with four players recording double-figures, led by
Brian Kruger's team-high 14 points.
Lester Anim chipped in with 12 points, while
Gerard Carty had 11 points and four assists and
Robert Borusiewicz notched a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Offense wasn't the Hawks problem on the night as they shot 43% from the field; the Hawks did have their lowest number of free throw attempts on the season totaling 17, down 11 from their season average of 28.6 attempts per game. The defense for the Hawks allowed the Dolphins to shoot nearly 52% from the field and 62% in the second half, which is when the Dolphins made their run.
CSI forward Will Fonseca led all scorers with 36 points, on 11-of-17 shooting, he also grabbed 12 rebounds. Frank Schettino also recorded a double-double tallying 12 points and 13 assists.
The Hawks return to action on Monday December 1 when they host Manhattanville College in a non-conference matchup at the Hunter Sportsplex. The game is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
