BOX SCORE STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Hunter Hawks women's basketball team lost 62-44 to CUNYAC foe, College of Staten Island on Tuesday night, in the CUNYAC opener for each team. The loss drops the Hawks to 2-4 as they head into the Thanksgiving Holiday break.
The Hawks battled early in the game not allowing the Dolphins to get to far ahead and were once again very aggressive on the offensive glass collecting 10 in the first half. The Hawks held CSI to 35% shooting in the first half but they just couldn't get their shots to fall, trailing 28-18 at the half.
"Unfortunately we just couldn't make enough shots tonight," said coach
John Garrett. "We executed our game-plan against a very good team but in order to win we must make shots and we didn't do that tonight."
In the second half the Hawks shot 38% from the field but were unable to control the Dolphins who shot 50% from the field in the second half.
The Hawks were led by
Kristen Markoe, who recorded her sixth consecutive double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds, right near her season averages.
"I'm proud of the team's growth so far," said Garrett. "Every game the coaching staff challenges the team and so far they have stepped up and responded to those challenges."
The Hawks return to action on Monday December 1 when they will host Manhattanville College at 5pm at the Hunter Sportsplex.
