RESULTS
JAMAICA, NY – The Hunter women's swimming team took on York College on Tuesday night in the CUNYAC opener, the Hawks easily defeated the Cardinals 123-53.
The Hawks started with a confident win in the 200 Medley Relay with
Chryzl Goco,
Carla Canning, Alxandra Rubiano, and
Christina Chu in 2:20.28 and a second place finish with Niki Wu,
Carryon Lam,
Monika McKie and
Annie Qiu.
Amanda Iken won the 800 free unchallenged in 11:53.15, with freshman
Grace Huezo getting the second fastest time at 13:13.89 in exhibition.
The next event was the 200 freestyle, which the Hawks swept. Freshman
Jessica Lou won with a time of 2:28.88 and sophomores
Lindsey Pero and
Emily DiPaola in 2:32 and 2:39.62 for second and third respectively.
Vanessa Xue won the next event, 50 Freestyle, with a time of 32.04.
The 200 IM was next and the Hawks took the top three spots with Rubiano taking first place with a time of 2:42.03, Goco coming in second at 2:49.67, and freshman
Kelly Xue rounding out the top-3 with a time of 2:50.04.
After the break, Rubiano came back to win the 100 Butterfly in 1:12.97, with Pero and McKie taking 2nd and 3rd unchallenged in 1:15.84 and 1:40.85 respectively.
The 100 free was another sweep for the Hawks with
Vanessa Xue winning in 1:10.57; Canning finished right behind her in 2nd at 1:11.63, and Chu at 3rd in 1:17.24
The backstroke was another sweep for the Hawks with Goco winning with a time of 1:17.36,
Kelly Xue in 1:22.11 and Wu at 1:22.81.
The remaining events were officially run as exhibitions, the 400M Freestyle, the 100M Breaststroke and the "A" 200 Freestyle Relay.
"We learned a lot from this meet, as swimming in a short course meters pool is always a challenge when you train in a 25 yard pool," said coach
Scott Bintner. "For many, it was a good training meet to work out some kinks in race strategy, technique, and focus."
The Hawks next meet is Saturday November 11 when they travel to face-off against William Patterson University.
