BOX SCORE NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter men's basketball team cruised to a 77-64 victory over CCNY on Friday night at the Sportsplex. The Hawks won their first CUNYAC game of the season improving to 1-2 in conference play and 4-6 overall.
The Hawks shot 48% from the field in the first half with great first half contributions from
Eric Kippins and
Matia Divac, who combined for 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting in the first 20 minutes.
The Hawks fell behind by three points with 10:37 left in the half but would take the lead back on a layup by Kippins and a three-pointer by
Jerrell Antley. The Beavers would take the lead back a few minutes later but with 57 seconds remaining in the half, Brian Kurger's layup would put the Hawks up three, and they would never trail again.
The Hawks were on fire offensively in the second half shooting 63% from the field.
Lester Anim would score 15 of his team-high 17 points in the second period.
The Hawks took control with a 12-2 run to open the second half, increasing their halftime lead from 32-28 to 44-30. The lead would grow to as big as 18 after Kippins grabbed an offensive rebound and tipped it back in.
Kippins would finish the game with 15 points and seven rebounds. To go along with Anim's 17 points, he also grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds.
Gerard Carty scored 13 points.
The Hawks return to action in 2015, when they take on CUNYAC foe John Jay College at 7pm on Friday January 2.
