QUEENS, NY – The Hunter women's tennis team won their third straight match Wednesday afternoon by defeating The College of Staten Island 7-2. The Hawks even their record at 3-3 and are 2-0 in CUNYAC play.
In the doubles competition the Hawks took two-of-three matches. #1 doubles pair
Julia Vranas and
Abigail Rojas won their match 8-4 and #3 doubles pair of
Janani Bavanandan and
Marie Visker won their match 8-1.
In singles play the Hawks started off with an easy win in #3 singles with Bavanandan winning her match 6-0, 6-0. In the #6 singles match,
Pauline McGlone defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-1, minutes later in the #5 match,
Paulina Szegda won 6-3, 7-5.
The two best matches of the day were on the #2 and #4 singles courts. In the #2 singles match, Vranas lost the first set 2-6 but rallied to win the second set 6-3. The junior then sealed the Hawk victory with a 6-4 third set win. In the #4 singles match,
Angelina Usherenko also battled in a three set match. She won the first set 6-2 then lost the second 5-7. Usherenko took control in the tie-breaker winning 10-7 and securing the Hawks 7-2 victory.
