BOX SCORE POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Hunter women's volleyball team took on Vassar College Thursday night in a non-conference matchup. The Hawks lost to the Brewers 3-1 in a tough four set match.
The Hawks lost the first two sets 17-25 and 23-25 but responded with a hard fought 25-20 win in the third set. They wound up giving the Brewers all they could handle in the fourth set but eventually dropped a highly contested game 27-25.
Sophomore
Samantha Barrett led the Hawks attack with a team-high 10 kills, while hitting .529% for the entire match. CUNYAC Rookie of the Week
Julia Connolly had another solid game contributing six kills along with two block assists.
Taylor Kordich was excellent setting up her teammates registering 14 assists; the senior also had eight digs and five kills.
The Hawks were only three points away from a loss but scored nine straight points to take a 23-22 lead thanks to aggressive net play by Connolly and
Lucia Stosic. The Hawks took the lead on a service ace by
Karolina Gajda. The teams would be tied, 24-24 and 25-25 before the Brewers scored the final two points for the victory.
The Hawks now sit at 7-11 on the season and return to action Tuesday September 30 when they host Mount Saint Mary College in the much awaited 2014 home opener.
