BOX SCORE NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter Hawks took on the Mt. St. Mary's Knights Tuesday night in the 2014 home opener. The Hawks swept the Knights 3-0 to improve their record to 8-11 on the season.
The Hawks took the first set 25-20 then cruised to a 25-14 win in the second set and then completed the sweep with a 25-20 third set victory.
Freshman
Julia Connolly led the Hawks with a game-high 12 kills she also contributed three aces. Senior
Taylor Kordich chipped in with six kills while hitting a team high .714%, she also added 12 assists. Sophomore
Kristine Ciurcina had a stellar performance with a game-high 18 assists to go along with seven digs and three aces.
The first set was close throughout with neither team being able to get more than three points ahead of the other. With the score 19-18 the Hawks rattled off five straight points, highlighted by two Connolly kills and one Kordich kill to take 24-18 lead.
In the second set the Hawks jumped all over the Knights and jumped out to a 15-4 lead thanks to great serving by Ciurcina and excellent play at the net by Connolly and Kordich.
The third set saw the Hawks jump out to an early 9-4 lead but the Knights were able to tie the set at 12 but that would be as close as they would get as the Hawks would take advantage of attacking errors to take a 22-14 lead.
The Hawks return to action Thursday when they travel to New Jersey to take on Montclair St., at 6pm.
