BOX SCORE NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter men's basketball team fell short on Wednesday night in a 77-68 loss to CUNYAC foe College of Staten Island. The loss drops the Hawks to 6-11 on the season and 3-6 in CUNYAC play.
Both teams opened the game cold on the offensive end with the Hawks defense holding the Dolphins without a field goal for the first five minutes of the game.
Matt Franks would make a layup with 6:14 left in the half to bring the Hawks within one at 21-20 but the Dolphins would respond closing out the half on an 18-6 run to take a 39-26 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, the Hawks had no answer for Will Fonseca who scored 14 of his game-high 29 points in the final 20 minutes.
The Hawks pulled to within five points with just under two minutes to play after
Brian Kruger hit his second straight three-pointer to make the score 71-66. This would be as close as the Hawks would get, as Fonseca would hit and old-fashioned three-point play with just over a minute to go to put away the Hawks.
Kruger led the Hawks with 18 points while
Lester Anim tallied 17 points and nine rebounds and
Eric Kippins scored 10 points. Bryan SIlvera led the Hawks on the glass grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Hawks return to action Friday January 23 when they will take on Baruch College at 7:30pm.
